Especially eye autofocus, that's a very recent thing. Beyond even the A6000 which has it but it's very primitive and buried in the menus for a reason. Sony didn't want you to notice how bad it was.
I'd look into how to focus then recompose. Focus at the subject in the centre then quickly move your camera and full press. I do that all the time on ultra primitive autofocus systems on early Nikon and Canon film cameras and it works well. There's lots of ways to adapt around the limits of the technology.
Or just save up a bit longer and buy an X-T2 which has great eye autofocus. It's not that expensive anymore (£500 used) and is my preferred Fuji camera.
