The watch is a good example, just like a $0.20 bic will write, so will a $500 gold nibbed fountain pen. The user experience is where the value comes in.
The only cameras I have shot that compare to Leica were the Hasselblad Xpan, and a Rolleiflex. I own a Rolleiflex, an M3, and a D800 for digital. The Rollei and Leica are both a joy to use but the Nikon is a clunky hulk of buttons and monstrous lenses that mostly stays at home and is being used as a scanner. I don't shoot tele so AF isn't any faster than RF or TLR focus.
Even though the Nikon has great IQ, the user experience is just so blah that I am thinking of picking up a digital Leica body. And no I don't believe that the Leica is better built in any way, it is just better designed for the way I like to shoot.
