Okay, here is my second iteration of the image. I changed the lighting to come from the side more than from the lens axis, added the hair(not exactly how I wanted), and I used xtol 1+1 for the development.
First. It is amazing how much of a difference lighting can make on an image like this. The two have totally different looks to them from moving my light source about 6 inches.
Second I am bummed that I did not notice the light fall off in the corners. I may try to burn those in to see if I can get any detail out of them.
Third I wish I was more precise about my cuts to reveal the hair. My intention was to have them be somewhat symmetrical, but I wasn't being careful enough.
Which do you like better? Can you notice any discernable difference between xtol 1+1 and rodinal 1+50? Xtol has a 4 minute shorter dev time, so I think I'll be using that along with the hypercat I'll be mixing up tommorow.
