You don't have to go full retard to get good results. I usually use Tv or TAv (basically M with auto ISO) and it comes out well enough.

Mmm. The only problem with that is that the light coming through the gaps between the slats is the whole reason I took that image. I might go back tonight near the same time but change things up a bit. I bet if I bumped up the EV a little it would come out better.
