They know the Silver model is sought after, so they separate the models by many years.
Their customers buys the black model for its specs, and because there is only the black model available.
Then several years later, they bait the same customers to sell their black model, to upgrade to the silver model.
It's a little bit ethically dubious, but oh well, there are worse companies with worse methods out there. I'm looking at you, fujifilm. Locking new jpeg profiles in the new cameras instead of firmware upgrading the old cameras.
