>>3204452You misunderstood my point. It was not whether those images have a narrative or not. Even if he had made up a story about how children drowned in that river and the balloons are a tribute to them, the image would still be cheap.
He put red balloons in a river, covered girls in mud, made a guy sleep naked on the beach. Ok, but take these shock factors out and his images are your average instagram vsco shit. Cheap props mean cheap efforts mean cheap images.
The photogs that I've named, Andres, Crewdson, Loretta Lux, Julie Blackmon, these are who I think do "surreal" with tasteful subtleties. Photography should be about pleasant visuals, not wow props and effects like in films or performance arts.
