And yes, he would be praised today, and he is praised today exactly for what he did. DO NOT look at his work on screen. Don't judge it on screen as well. His photos aren't edited for screen, if they were you'd get whites where his greys are now. His editing his prints for those fantastic silver tones that you see on his canvases. And they are majestic when you see them! Take moonrise for example, seeing it live, moon and the tombstones are fantastically silver, drawing your eyes to them, accenting the blacks of the dark sky perfectly. It's a masterpiece.
