Here's a terribe iphone photo of a print I made with a particularly difficult negative. I don't know if you could enlarge it past A3 but it is very sharp at A4. Not gounna compare to a decent piece of slide film but even enlarged to A2, it would look good from a distance.
>>2614037honestly for street/beach photography you don't want something bulky. DSLRs really stick out and seem very formal, and people notice them much more easily. A fuji digital rangefinder would be better, and they are an absolute joy to use. A second hand mid-range one would do the job, or you can get a Soviet FED fairly cheap, and, used in conjunction with Fomapan film, would be affordable so long as you can judge exposures well.
However, the D5000 is a solid camera and will do the job for professional work. Alternatively, a D90 or D300 will do a great job even now (I still use my D90 for digital work and it's just a wonderful camera, if a bit dated). Honestly so long as you're not working below 6MP and your lens isn't full of mold, you needn't worry much about the gear as a jack-of-all-trades photographer.
