>>4003121I would have liked to check out one of the teahouses, but they were expensive and my schedule was tight. I left next for Takayama.
Frankly, Takayama was not very interesting for me. I think the town's largest tourist attraction is it's festival, which I was several months too late for. I wandered about aimlessly, eventually ending up at a mountain trail (more of a large hill than a mountain to be honest) where I snapped this picture. In southern/central Japan, you'll only see asian black bears which are fairly harmless, at least when compared to the brown bears you'll see further north. I misjudged my timing quite a bit and nightfall came right as I reached the summit of the large hill. Though I just mentioned how not-frightening black bears are, I'll admit to being quite spooked as I made my way back down the mountain in the dark, the light of the moon and stars almost completely blocked out by clouds and trees. Every time I heard a twig snap my heart raced a bit.
Unfortunately, this is just about the most interesting picture I have of that day. Tomorrow I'll be going back to a (relatively) big city and we'll be seeing many more tourists (and people in general) than over the past few days.
