>>3648511How do I pick the correct aperture size to get my entire subject in focus and nothing else?
Right now I just shoot aperture priority and pick
F1.8 for tiny DOF
F2.8 for individual portraits
F4 for objects
F5.6 for small group portraits
F8 for entire scenes on overcast days
F11 for entire scenes on bright days
F16 for landscape
I literally never use 2, 2.2, 2.5, 3.2, 3.9, 4.5, 5, 5.8, 6.3, 7.1, 9, 10, 13, or 14
But sometimes (for example) people's ears are out of focus when shot head-on, or the DOF just isn't quite right in some other way. I use the DOF preview button, but it's still hard to tell.
Maybe focus peaking is the answer, but people are out here taking even film photos with perfect DOF.
