>>3790034I feel this in my soul
>>3790009I bought a 50mm for my crop dslr when I was stating out because I hated how slow the kit lens was shit in low light (I wanted to shoot concerts). Anyways, I always found it akward to use outside of portraits. When I got a 35mm APSC lens it became my go to, I really enjoyed using it and found it pretty natural to compose with.
Couple years later (and alot more experience) I reach for my 85mm a little bit more than the 50mm but I think the advantages of a 50mm eq lens for crop sensors are massive. I almost wish more companies would ship 'kits' with a 35mm crop lens option, I really hated how 18-55mm zoom that falls apart in anything other than ideal light.
Anecdotally, both my housemates in college got into photography too and had these 'Ah hah!' moments after purchasing cheap/fast primes for their cameras too.
So yeah, I think the 50mm eq is a great focal length to use but as alot of new people start on on crop sensor cameras, it's a bit misleading because your nifty fifty is more like a nifty seventy-five.
