I'm a poorfag NEET so I literally can't afford to throw rolls at the wall. Also I'd only been using the DSLR for something like 2 or 3 months before I got my k1000 so I guess it was a good way to quickly get better. My first roll sucked shit but the fact I would usually only get a couple rolls a month if I wasn't developing meant I could get technically better relatively quickly. Now I just need to get better artistically more than learn how cameras and film work. Also a job, that'd probably help.
