>>3637398It's actually the same exact thing. Digital RGB array allows for digital colour filters that mimic exactly the look of physical colour filters on black and white photography. There are few cases where physical filter will give different results, but those only occur in cases where one of RGB arrays clips. For example, when you're shooting strong reds; fire or red lights with digital RGB, red is dominant channel, it will clip very quickly. Underexposing will prevent this, but it'll crush shadows and blacks. Alternative is countering red with blue filter, it will prevent clipping and allow for exposures that will give different results.
There is drawback to this versatility, RGB array detracts from sharpness. Pure black and white sensor will be noticeably sharper in same situation. In the end it's all a matter of taste. Some digital bw photogs prefer rgb, some black and white sensors.
