In fact the advantages compound on film because there's no "ah I fucked up, let me retake that", just the results when you finally process. The sharper image wide open helps you focus accurately on the ground glass in a way that really isn't possible with slower or softer optics. The lower field curvature helps you get more consistent results when focusing in the centre. The better flare resistance helps focusing (and also results) when shooting against the light.
