>>3670015The Canon P is a great camera (I have no experience with the 7)...but you cannot expect any of the light meters in the Canon rangefinders to remain viable options. Even if one is claimed to have a working meter...how long it will be working who knows. You say you want a meter. I would not be looking at these Canons unless you accept the fact that you may need to fork out $100-$250 for a shoemount meter if you want an integrated meter with the camera. Factor this price into the cost of a Canon body imo.
The Canon 50mm 1.8 is a nice little lens (pic related @ F2ish). For the ~$100 they sell for you can't go wrong. The all-chrome versions aren't prone to haze like the black/chrome versions are.
I think you should seriously consider the Voigtlander Bessa cameras. If you're not in a rush you will definitely be able to get an Bessa R (M39 mount, built in-meter) for $400 or less. Hell I bought an M-mount R3A last week for $560 off eBay. The basic R is apparently pretty plasticy and surely won't feel as nice as one of the Canons...but beyond that it will be a better camera in every meaningful way. I own multiple Bessas but don't have the standard R. I love mine.
For lenses look into the Canon 50mm 1.8/1.4 and Voigtlander 35mm 2.5. Again, with some patience you can get the former in decent condition for <$100 and the latter for <$200.
