He's saying that the process of getting the photo is, to some people (including him, and including me), as important as the end result photo. If you're in the "All that matters is the final image" camp, that's totally fine, and a totally valid way to enjoy photography. But for me, it's just as important to me that I enjoy the actual act of taking the photo. I get that with a Leica in a way that I don't with a lot of other cameras. It's just a different way of doing photography, and ironically the very fact that it gets in the way of me getting a picture easily is part of what makes me feel more connected to the photography.
It's like a Prius vs. a Lamborghini. The Lambo is ridiculously expensive, and traffic laws mean it won't get you to the grocery store any faster, and it won't carry as many groceries when you get there, and it'll be harder to drive throughout because you need to know how to drive stick, etc. But for car people, none of that really matters--the process of driving the car, and the journey in it, is just as important as the destination. And yeah, there are some rich assholes who just get one to show off how rich they are and then hate actually driving it, but it's not really made for them even though they might be the primary customers.
