Hey so I'm somewhat new to the /p/ world, (I'm a sound engineer) but I cannot notice something when I go looking for gear online: The used camera market seems so irrational and people seem to be selling their gear before they've even got much use out of it.
Facebook marketplace is full of mirrorless Sonys and Panasonics which are honestly pretty good and have low shutter counts. I suspected that these were being sold by hobbyists who could afford to go pro - wrong, most of these sellers told me they just want to upgrade to the latest model to get 0.154 extra mega-pixels.
Exhibit A): Following the recent lumix release announcement, there has been an inundation of used S5s and GH6s which are honestly great cameras in great condition yet they're being sold at half price at least. Is it really worth the financial loss to get the latest camera? This is a genuine question; I am a noob.
To me, this is just obsessing over small, incremental changes. Is the upgrade from the S5 to the next Lumix really that big a deal? It leads to a market flooded with underpriced gear - which I am happy to exploit, but it seems dumb.
If I seem baffled it's cause this is unheard of in the audio world.
