See how different they are? That's just film and color filtration, essentially the same as altering your white balance in a raw file that's going to be B&W.
Channel mixing, individually making your greens brighter or darker without modifying your reds? This leaves you with orders of magnitude more options.
As with most subjects, the more you understand about it, the more you'll realize how ignorant you currently are.
