Yes I have expensive equipment and yada yada, but I got this to make my life easier on the field.
I don't think there is a single element that flipped the cards alone.
It's just a lot of trial-and-error, both on the field and in the digital darkroom.
You mention the warm feeling and that's interesting, that's part of understanding what makes a live scene visually compelling without telling your viewer "yea I totally slapped a filter on this".
Luminance and color contrasts are pretty important to achieve a good result.
