>>3727751>If your great grandmother was only 1/4th Indian by blood, for example, but was forced west during removal and wasn't specified as being mixed, then you would be 1/32nd in terms of blood quantum even though your genetic share is obviously smaller.Wow, that is something. I'm not too familiar with the scenario up here but I know that when my state sold out to the Indians they went fucking everywhere to get enough tribal members to qualify for their little casino countries. I'm sure similar rules are in place for the selection process but it's pretty plain that they let just about anyone in. Foxwoods went especially hard and began hemorrhaging money in the form of tribal allowances and now Norwich, Preston, and surrounding environs are awash with what are essentially white people carrying a little card that claims they're Mashantucket.
But reservation fuckery really isn't anything new. The tribe native to my local area were declared extinct in 1870 and the reason was quite political. White overseers were in charge of handling the financial affairs of tribes and their reservations in the 19th century and if the tribe was declared legally extinct the overseer could then sell the land off for profit. The Nehantic reservation happened to be on coastal property that is now a very affluent section of town. Their burial grounds were on a narrow strip of coastal headland further east and of course they were all dug-up to make way for the suicide shacks of the seasonal tourists.
