>>3225657A short telephoto is a very useful landscape lens in the mountains - I would consider it as essential as a normal and much more useful than a wide angle. For this photo, I might have "zoomed with my feet" (1 hour hike each way) if I really wanted to do this shot with a wide angle lens, but I wouldn't have gotten the stream in the foreground like this. The framing would have ended up very different, and the lighting would have been gone by then anyway. I simply couldn't have gotten this photo without a short telephoto lens.
