Canon FD 28mm 2.8 again, this is on top of Osorezan, Bodaiji temple on the Shimokita peninsula in Aomori. The grounds look like an alien wasteland, ground if often hot to the touch, steam pouring out of the rocks, yellow sulphur spewing out of the ground, the lake often looks like a tropical beach, water is acidic.
It’s famed to be the gateway to hell and almost nobody goes there, though for people who go it’s common to mourn for lost children iirc, there’s often stacked piles of rocks and objects the child loved. To help them cross over iirc, though you see crows there swoop down and knock over the rock piles.
A Japanese person I knew told they would get cursed if they went there, maybe they were right desu.
