>>4245905>Isn't that pricey af and manual only?Loxia and especially Milvus line of lenses are legendary status lenses. The entire Milvus lineup is known as ''baby Otus,'' because Zeiss used the same approach as with Otus line when designing and manufacturing Milvus lenses. Milvus lenses specifically, are so impressive, that even agencies, big and small, all over Europe, were buying entire Milvus sets in bulk, together with Otus lenses. That's how good they are.
Now, regarding pricing, these lenses are the opposite of pricey and are actually heavily undervalued and dirt cheap for what they are. Zeiss should have priced them somewhere up there with Otus and it would have easily been justified. Especially considering the fact that agencies bought them in bulk to get them for even cheaper - but then again, nobody could have predicted that, so considering what these lenses are, they are super cheap... A lens of that design from Nikon, Canon or Sony, would have easily cost you 4 grand if not more... Speaking of... Panasonic tried to do something very similar with one of their PRO line lenses and the result was a lens that ended up costing 3 grand... (Lumix S Pro 50mm f1.4.) So there's that.
Anyhow, to keep it short, the only downsize for amateurs, hobbyists and some photographers who actually need AF, is the fact that there is no AF with those lenses. They are exclusively manual focus only. For everyone else however, these lenses are basically dirt cheap Otus lenses that they can have for 1/4 of the price.
I had the entire Milvus set back in 2021 when I was shooting Sony and it was a massive step up even compared to my GM lenses. But yeah, the only problem for some people is manual focus.
