Went in for my trial shift yesterday at the film lab. I meshed well with the employees there since I'm a regular and I'm also acquaintances with one of them and she said she was glad to see I'd been picked for a trial shift.
I was given a bunch of tasks to do around the lab as well as cover FOH, which is what the main role for the job will be, and I picked up on everything pretty quickly despite having no experience in a lab before. I displayed bits of knowledge in the film process as well as various film stock and negative formats when asking questions that I know from watching film photography YouTubers which the owner seemed impressed to hear.
I'm also used to retail/customer service and how the store's POS system works so that was a breeze.
But about halfway through my 4-hour trial shift I found out that there are 4 other people who have done/are doing a trial shift and there's only 2 positions to be filled.
Believe me when I say my hopes and dreams fucking plummeted at that moment.
The owner said he'll let me know by the end of next week when the trials are done as to whether or not I got the job but honestly I'm just going to use the next 6 days to mentally prepare myself for disappointment otherwise I'm going to fall into a month long depressive episode.
Anyways... what should I shoot to get my mind off this?
