Under lab conditions, but also in the field you can get very good results with an inverted manual 50mm and a flash+softbox. Shooting 1:1 might result in interesting shots, but they are barely useable. At Maratus sp. you maybe have the eyes in focus at f/8, but the opisthosoma is out of focus, as the DOF gets narrower the closer you get. Your only options are lower magnification, or focus stacking.
