It's not about the technical aspects of the photo. It's more of the composition of it. I kind of get what you were trying to go for here, but this could have been executed much better.
The whole idea behind 'HIPSTER' style seems to just be shooting random stuff in the streets with zero composition or framing but using a camera that will get you some bokeh or depth of field showing. That's about as far as "hipster" photos go. It has zero artistic value and maximum technical value.
You could take these same mundane stairs in a more mysterious fashion, especially with that exit sign, if you look at it from a different angle. Maybe even black and white to really add to the atmosphere. I have included an example.
I can guess what you were maybe FEELING when you stood here. Lonely, deserted, eerie, and dark. But your photo doesn't really translate those feelings so well. Hopefully the example will show you kind of what I mean
