Here is the latest E-mount lens, the optics extends all the way into the bayonet plane.
They can extend it even further into the Mechanical Shutter plane if they had a need to do that.
They would just have to market it as E-mount version2 and make the lens send signals into the body to disable the mechanical shutter on old cameras without global shutter.
RF-mount can do the same thing, it isn't hindered by its 20mm flange.
