I went out in the bright sun to train up on using this Opteka f/6.3 500m lens without the 2x teleconverter. All these shots are taken while facing the sun without a lens hood, using a tripod and IR remote. Top images are the originals, bottom images are after trying to get things to look better in Camera Raw. Even the bluejay was extremely backlit and I didn't use fill flash (not that flash could have reached that far away). There's not much I can do with exposure bracketing with moving subjects and the wind. I think that with static subjects, exposure bracketing would most likely really make this lens shine.
I still don't have a 1A skylight filter, which is recommended for this lens, to help remove some of the bluing. I have that and a lens hood on my list of things to purchase next.
