I purchased a used lens at 82% percent the cost of a brand new one, shipping included, from eBay, because ever getting a deal on these stupid Samsung lenses is next to impossible.
The seller's description claims:
>It is in mint, or as near mint as makes no difference, cosmetic and operational condition
>The photos enable you to judge for yourself what immaculate condition the lens is in.
>I think anyone would really struggle to tell any difference between this lens and a brand new one.
>Overall, I’d rate this lens an easy 9.5 out of 10 for cosmetic condition
>in mint or very near mint
However, upon unwrapping the lens I immediately noticed four different spiderweb fractures on the internal elements. Only one of the sellers photos may depict these fractures, but without having referenced the physical item it would be impossible to discern. This gives me reason to believe this was not damage accrued during shipping, it was packed well, but rather the listing description was woefully misleading. Thus, I should have plenty of evidence to get all of my money back.
However, how concerned about these fractures should I be, both picture quality, and the chance of the fractures getting worse? I'd be happy with just a significant partial refund and keep the lens instead. I intend to use it hiking so there's less concern of knocks and scratches to a shitty lens. It's night so I cannot go out to take any test shots.
