>>4366030There are times when <28 is warranted but only if you have an interesting foreground. Most of the time <28 has no details just a bunch of rocks and shit, where as this has depth and detail, this was done on an IR D300. Most people have no idea how to use wide lenses they just want to cram everything into one image and that's not how wide angle lenses work.
Telephoto lets you reach out and grab details, rock formations and other compositions that you wouldn't see in a wide lens. Don't get me wrong, wide has its merits in landscape, Galen Rowell loved 24mm and he used it almost exclusively for outdoor stuff. They compliment each other though.
