>>3027954I wouldn't bother stacking with the aurora. The process of stacking takes any definition of pillars and bands out of the aurora, making that part of the photo lackluster. Dark, clear skies are much more common that the aurora, so when the lights are out, just focus on capturing those. Otherwise, shoot the stars on clear nights without the aurora.
You could also just shoot stars in the southern sky so the aurora is to your back. Pic related and the following picture were taken on the same night.
