From personal experience (been doing this shit for 2+ years) you want pic related. (not the original one, that's stupid expensive, get a clone.)
Pros:
- flip it up and you've got a fairly good wide source, great for even lighting horizontal group shots.
- turn it up for vertical shots, similarly big and pleasing light source
- you can use it frontally to get a strong light without blasting people too much
- no assembly needed, velcro straps, soft shit that folds, it all gets into the way when you're shooting in a crowded area. This thing just fits and stays 90% of time, I had it fall a couple of times but you feel it.
Cons:
- people will bother you endlessly with shitty jokes ("is it your drink holder?")
- it's plastic so relatively heavy, prepare to grow some muscles on your shooting hand.
-it does put some added stress on the flash, it didn't kill my flash or anything but it does feel like it could do damage.
- you lose about a stop of light because you're reflecting light off the white cap, not using direct flash light.
Imho if you don't want to get this, you're better off with the reflecting card on the flash. Those big pseudo softboxes are too unwieldy and fragile, plus they're only direct lighting.
