In other industries you normally have a regional distributor who buys a shit ton of stock, and then they send small shipments to various local shops.
That has nothing to do with the main company.

Why is camera business so different from other businesses that the manufacturer somehow become part of the distribution chain?
Some other random distributor could still order batches of Olympus camera, couldn't they?
