In worst case I would be willing to pay another 50 dollars for the material cost.
(I reject any notion of this costing more than 50 bucks, it's just some metal and some additional wires to a very primitive control chip.)
Everybody would lost to have this. It's super annoying when your are on a prime and your left have has nothing to do.

That's when the lens itself probably cost 80 bucks to manufacture, 100 bucks when sold to retailer, and then 180 bucks to the end-customer.
That's a situation where I understand the cost is prohibited.
But for a lens that is sold for 500-and up it shouldn't be an issue.
