Here's an example of 21mm + flash. It's not a good photo (bad framing - that shoe in front of her head), but you can imagine how close I got. Not a single bad word was exchanged and we just had a short talk during which they told me they were looking for some shoes for their grandchild.

There are several videos that show how Gilden deals with it and to me he mostly seems like a friendly guy. Of course, it's somewhat strange to have someone approach/invade your private space (0.5-1m), but what happens afterwards is what matters.
>>3337537Maybe you just didn't notice? There are several ways of how to capture 'the streets' and the frontal approach involving flash is still pretty rare. Even when using flash, people never seemed to be bothered by me taking their photo. Sometimes I talk to them, sometimes I don't.. this also depends on proximity and I'm more likely to have a small chat when being closer.
