It performs pretty much exactly like every 28mm lens ever made. Some aberrations wide open, better if you get more in focus. Sony also redesigned it after 2017 without telling anyone, copy variation improved, it got slightly sharper, and they put in GM-like aperture blades that are straight on the bottom and curved on top.
The 50mm f1.8 (3.0 firmware), 28mm f2 (post-2017), and 85mm f1.8 (made in china version) are the ultimate first party poorfag primes for sony. Otherwise just buy from tamron/samyang/viltrox, their primes are pretty good actually.
Just avoid every zeiss/sony lens, some of the worst performing lenses with the most copy variation of any first party product. You know, if you wanted consistently good first party lenses you should have bought a canon. Kek. Canon consistently scores the best regarding quality control on their lenses so you don't have concerns like this.
