The only advantage FF as a format has inherently over APS-C is narrower DOF. If your FF camera isn't taking advantage of the larger sensor size by increasing the megapickles then you literally don't have any increased resolving power over an APS-C with the same number of pickles. Format size is obviously not the same in digital as it is in film where 120 film has like 4x the resolution of 35mm. Resolution in digital is only determined by pickle count and format only determines the upper limit of how many pickles you can fit in your camera.
If you're buying a FF camera with the same sensor density as a high end APS-C... congrats, you're just buying a more expensive camera that absolutely will have better resolution because it has 1.5-2x the MP. There is nothing magical about it.
