>>3605771Most digital images are sterile and nowhere close to how you remember a scene. Editing is the act of moving an image closer to your memory if anything. If you really think the result straight out of camera is anything like how you saw it in real life then you can't have used digital cameras long.
Also your memories and impressions of a scene are tainted by your other senses plus your emotional state. That's why sunset shots always look so boring to us but at the time you were amazed. And your eyes have way more dynamic range than any camera and lens too. So you need to work an image in post to make up for that.
If you want to do very little editing but want things to look how you remember, start shooting on film. Kodak Portra always looks how I remember the scene at the time. This scene was shot on Portra 400, on my friend's digital camera it looked terrible and flat but she's like you where she thinks editing robs the image of "authencity" (because she doesn't know how to edit). Mine needed no editing and looked as I remember.
