I really hate how phony and humanistic most of documentary portraiture is. Where is the evil side? And how do you represent that with a posing subject? Are humans really good at hiding their evil while posing in front of mechanical eye? Is it a failure of photographers to capture that? Is it that photographers feel a moral obligation to present their subjects in a "positive light" because those subjects allow a stranger to photograph them? I think, this is precisely where street photography fucks documentary in the ass.
