Canons from that era are completely shit in their metering and auto mode since they favor shutter priority and instead of suggesting a shutter speed they suggest an aperture making shooting anything else aside from sports where you would actually benefit from controlling the DoF a pain in the ass.
Nikons would be good but aside from the F series they all have that shit """feature""" where you have to take the advance lever to the stand-off position in order to shoot.
