So I'm using darktable and I decided to finally get rid of the basecurve
http://www.darktable.org/2013/10/about-basecurves/It's something that the programm adds automatically based on the camera it recognized. It adds massive saturation and contrast to the picture and I spend a great deal of time taking it out again, because I like a flatter look and the basecurve tends to crush and blow out a lot. So I figured I'd cut out the middleman.
But while I get a softer contrast and a more pleasing dynamic, I never manage to get that colour back in.
Pic related is the same image with and without base curve. I don't know how I would work the image on the top to make the colours as vibrant as on the other one
I notice that basecurve tends to make too strong contrast when faces are involved.
So, what Is that basecurve exactly and is it recommended?
