Personally I bought a Vivitar 70-210/3.5 for $50 and couldn't have been happier. It was a while until I got a legitimate modern 70-200/2.8 with AF. Something really charming about the old Vivitars, no doubt. Here's a pic I took with it. Really solid image quality, IMO, especially for the money. This is unedited.
I would imagine their 28/2.8 would be similarly effective.
