Marriages, events, birthday parties etc. are the commercial side of photography. It's like judging music on the basis of corporate music.
Trained skill is required in crafts but most people don't consider them art. Photography is not like one day you pick up a camera and next day everyone will make a masterpiece. You need tons of practice, research, reading and writing which will take many years if you want to develop your style. I don't know what you mean by "natural skill" but developing your signature style, your mind's eye and creating strong narratives are pretty challenging just like all of other artforms.
