Camerasize.com is a good tool for that.
Before making the claim, I checked on there just to verify there wasn't a huge difference between a D500 (Nikon's pro-level crop) and the D850 and D780 (their high-end and midrange full frames, respectively), and then did the same with the Canon 5D IV and 7D II. I hadn't checked the Pentax K1 vs K3, but I just did that too and it holds up (although the size difference there is a *bit* more).
So of the systems that make both a crop and a pro-level full frame camera in the same lens mount, my assertion seems to hold true. Yes, the pro-level crop bodies are a *little* smaller, but not by a huge amount.
Now, if you're comparing something like a 5D against a Rebel, the crop camera's gonna be significantly smaller, but I'm also having a hard time envisioning someone serious enough about photography to want to buy pro-level lenses specifically for his camera format but who doesn't care about a good viewfinder or decent control layout you get from a camera body above entry level.
> whereas Nikon has been rapidly losing market shareMostly to Sony, though, and that's mostly because of the wild success of the full frame A7 line.
E.g., Sony has been rapidly gaining market share, and they've neglected their crop sensor line just as much of not more than Nikon. Hell, they didn't even have an f/2.8 normal zoom for their crop sensors until last year.
