I don't think there's anything wrong with having the camera in frame. It feels more like a nod to the medium than anything else but it's hard to try balance one thing and the other, cameras dont look very organic so it's hard to have one in the same frame as a person and balance it, my favourite selfies have always been the ones that were more in line with the aesthetic I aim for when taking pictures
