Dragonflies like to perch, and if you've got an AF macro, you can fire away at them in burst mode.
Also most insects will tolerate the camera moving towards them as long as youself keep still (ideally crouched). I use that technique to slowly zoom in on sitting insects before they fly away.
In most cases, however, butterlies, dragonflies and other sufficiently large insects are best captured with a tele(zoom) rather than a macro because they will stay outside of minimum focus distance and are larger than your sensor.
This one I shot at a creek from the long end of my consoomer zoom, crouching in the vegetation. It helps to wait nearby their preferred perches, they especially like sticks or plants rising directly from the water surface.
