Nope, the tables have turned.
Sony sensors are nothing special any more, everybody have caught up, and Sony has been stagnating on the smartphoone sensor front for half a decade now.

Now it's the Sony lenses that are best.
It's Sony who is slow and conservative.
It's Canon who has renewed vigour and push out innovations faster.
The tables have turned completely.

Sony is the new king of optics. Their new zooms have precise field curvature as though they were prime lenses.
