Cheap chinese lens vs. sigma
>sigma doesn't wash out shado-
it does. Their coatings are bad. They cheap out on glass. They spam elements to try and solve their problems and make sure edges are well defined. Which is what an MTF chart measures.
A contrast slider adjustment won't save this because reflectance issues within the lens eliminated finer gradients before the sensor could even record them. It would be like using a sharpening slider to make your photo less blurry. But at least the edges are well defined, right? So shaaaahp.
This issue is primarily noticed outdoors and when using artificial light in a studio environment, therefore /p/ gearfags will never have a problem, because all they take photos of is indoor pets and the decorations in starbucks.
If you want nice looking photos, fujinon, sony, nikkor, cosina, and canon make more great lenses than bad ones and meike, samyang, yongnuo, and ttartisans make lenses that typically render well but produce soft edges and ugly ghosting and can get unusable wide open or close up. Tamron, followed by sigma, are among the worst unless your deal is price to edge definition ratios rather than photographic aesthetics.
After these shitcos go bankrupt, photographers of the future will look back on them and think these lenses are shit, but want them anyways for the washed out "character" combined with edge definition making their photos look vintage by 2100s standards.
