There's a difference between filming in public, filming people in public and shoving a camera to a strangers face in public. In my country I think there's a law that you can film in public without a persons consent, if they're in a crowd and not recognizable or something like that. Obv street photography is a different matter and I don't think that is looked at the same way.
If I understood correctly there was a vague message of doing this in the way of free speech or freedom to film or something, but this really is not the way to do it.
