Youre not gonna wanna have to muck around with 2 lenses in the field, but I'd buy 3 all the same with that budget. 2 zooms and 1 prime. Here's the idea. You get a normal range-medium telephoto, a 70+ telephoto zoom and a fast narrow prime. When youre going to be out in the field, grab the normal range-medium tele for the first week and see if its enough range for you. It might not be because war is fought over surprisingly large distances these days. People dont realize how far away the enemy can be these days so you could be forced a fair way back from what you want to shoot. Modern optics just keep pushing frontlines further and further back, so take it into consideration. Thats why you've got the 70+ tele zoom. Swap them out back at base if the normal zoom isnt enough. The fast prime is for shooting those hitting, emotional, front covers of newsweek portraits of injured people and abandoned children back at base.Get a bunch of extra batteries, half a dozen, more than you need and a cheap, lightweight, waterproof, over the shoulder sling, something like pic related, that will hold the camera and an attached tele and a few batteries in a side pocket, nothing more. Noone is going to be shipping to fucking ukraine so you need to think about all this beforehand. Make sure you get weather resistant shit. Its hell.
